No city is quite as luxurious as Vienna (except maybe Paris). The shopping, the opera, the Habsburgs, and last, but certainly not least, the coffee. Vienna still embraces the original function of the coffeehouse as a place to meet and discuss ideas and facilitate discussion. And while you may never be more than a mile away from the nearest Starbucks whilst in downtown Vienna, you are also surrounded by hidden gems. Cafe Central may be tucked away from the vibrancy of the main avenues, but it is certainly not hidden. Opened in the late 19th century, this chic coffeehouse is most famous for its patrons Lenin and Trotsky. Today, it remains chic as ever and the most delectable way to enjoy an afternoon coffee.

Take your coat off and stay awhile. Enjoy a newspaper or magazine while you’re at it. (They even have English papers for those of us who can’t speak German)

Every warm coffee should come accompanied by a cup of cold ice water. I’m not sure if any better combination exists.

Despite the luxury and notoriety of Cafe Central, I’m convinced it is the pastries themselves that actually make this place so irresistible. Layers of chocolate and hazelnut and other Viennese goodness.

Maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to get my hands on this recipe and open up my own little Viennese coffee shop right here in the US. Or maybe I’ll just have to go back to Vienna ;)

ps. As I type this I am sipping on a venti latte from Starbucks. I feel a little bit like a traitor.

After having travelled the world and snagged the boy back I figured it was about time I learned a little bit about domestication. Cooking, cleaning, & craftiness aren’t exactly my cup of tea, but my return to suburbia may be teaching me a thing or two (and not just how to kick butt on the LSAT)

I’ve recently explored how to go to the grocery store and buy more than just make up and hair products:

Staircase III by Do Ho Suh

While visiting London I made sure to pencil in over half a day for the Tate Modern. This intriguing installation piece is only one of many many thought-provoking artworks. It makes me just wanna climb up the stairs and into some dream-like alternate reality.

Maybe having art like this in my bedroom the solution to my insomnia. It certainly couldn’t hurt ;)

Day One: Mussels in Brussels

For the new few weeks I am going to share several highlights from my epic tour around Europe with all of you lovely readers. To begin I made a quick stop in Brussels and I must say it is quite an underrated gem. My favorite thing about this city–the food. Between the waffles, the mussels, & the chocolate I think I was in heaven (especially coming from the less tasty/more hearty British cuisine)

Around the World in 32 Days

Sorry for being m.i.a. the past month I have been traveling around the world. I went from Oxford ➝ London ➝ Brussels ➝ Amsterdam ➝ Prague ➝ Vienna ➝ Salzburg ➝ Venice ➝ Florence ➝ Rome ➝ Barcelona ➝ Madrid ➝ Granada back to London back to Oxford back to Pittsburgh. Then off again to Washington DC and finally to Austin. Needless to say it has been possibly the best month of my life. To top it all off this weekend in Austin was also a sweet reunion with my boot-wearing boy after being apart for nine months.

To make a long story short: Girl meets boy. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy is super smart. Boy goes far far away to Austin for law school. Girl and boy break up. Girl is sad. Boy is sad. Girl goes to Oxford–single. Boy lives in Austin–single. Girl and boy keep talking despite distance and differences. Finally, boy brings girl to Austin and now boy and girl are boy+girl again.

As I sat anxiously waiting for the law school boy to get outta class so I could see him for the first time my mom sent me this:
